Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
Romans 12:1
October 15th, 2014 marked two years since I had set some life changing goals and made a commitment to God to act on the things He has been teaching me. Part of that goal was to optimize my physical health. Some folks have been asking me to write out my diet plan since I have had success in this area. When I tell them that I am not on a diet, they simply don’t believe me. So I have decided to write out my program here in a series of posts called “The Program.” I don’t know how long it will be, four entries for sure, but beyond that I could not tell you.
The truth is that I have lost some weight, but there is much more to the story. My transformation over the last two years really starts with my faith in God and the things He has been teaching me about the last eight years. Those lessons are significant, but are separate journal entries from this series. Hopefully what you read here will provide some value, hope or inspiration as I am quite certain that anyone can do what I am going to share.
What I will be sharing is my program for nutrition and training. It really is nothing earth shattering, just the consistent application of some principles and the decision to daily pursue the goal. When I first started this journey, I assembled a support system that provided significant guidance. This included a nutritionist, my doctor, a biblical counselor, a physical therapist, my men’s Bible study group and my personal trainer. My trainer was a Marine and started out by telling me “forget everything you know about working out, I am going to show you how Marines train.” That sucked at first, but totally worth it. Today I am loosely tethered to some of these folks and have added a Krav Maga instructor, but for the most part I on my own now.
So without further delay, I am going to launch into these entries this week. This may appear to be about nutrition and a break from writing about matters of faith, but to me this is entirely about faith.
