A couple of USC Alumni posted a request online looking for suggestions. They were having a football themed wedding and asked for football themed wedding vows. Sounded like a fun exercise, so this is what I came up with.
Love is patient, Love is kind and is not jealous; Love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not keep a record of wrong doings; does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things, this type of Love never fails!
1. When life blitzes us, I will always protect you
2. Opponents are never allowed in your backfield or mine
3. Excessive celebration will always be allowed in our family
4. Together we will prayerfully consider when to punt and when to go for it.
5. Holding is always allowed and encouraged
6. Timeout are for parents, not for children and we will use them to talk things over when pressure mounts.
7. There is no “I” in team, but there is me and you will have all of me on your team from this day forward. I will never apply for free agency or ask to be traded and you can’t cut me, the team is set.
8. Life doesn’t always go as planned, so when I have to make quick decisions, I will never call an audible without considering what is best for you, us and our family.
9. We have been practicing for a while for the big game. Now that the season has started, we will continue to practice daily the things that allowed us to make the team.
10. For some folks, the wedding is the Super Bowl and the marriage has an off season. For us, our marriage will be the Super Bowl and there will not be an off-season as we will always wear our Super Bowl rings!
11. When I realized that God had picked you to be the Mom/Dad to our children, it gave a whole new meaning to the term Special Team.
12. With God as our Coach, together we will fight on until time expires.
This was a fun idea and I enjoyed thinking about it. I am still thinking of other vows that might work. If I ever get married, I will have to float this idea to her.
